For over twenty years, Rigdzin Tingkhye has run his small Tibetan shop, Pema Kharpo, in Seattle—with the goal to buy and sell consciously. This story was produced for broadcast on Seattle Channel in the weekly show CityStream.
Nestled in a row of shops and restaurants in Seattle’s Greenwood neighborhood, is the city’s oldest Tibetan boutique gift shop. In an area where businesses have come and gone quickly over the years, perhaps it is a bit of good karma that keeps has kept the tiny shop operating for over twenty years. Committed to buying and selling consciously, owner Rigdzin Tingkhye, considers it not only a business but a way to share his heritage and culture with the curious buyers who may stroll in.
Walk into Pema Kharpo and you are bound to leave not only with a unique find, but also a bit of buddhist wisdom thoughtfully imparted by the owner.
