Chicana Choreographer Storms the Bounds of Stereotype

I came across the name Alicia Mullikin while researching for a story series that I had pitched for KCTS 9, Seattle’s PBS television station. The series featured stories on Latino artists from the Pacific Northwest. After reading about her work, I immediately reached out to her and went and saw a rehearsal for a dance that she was choreographing. And watching her work and speaking with her at length, it was clear that she was dedicated to her art. Not only that, but she was also changing mindset about perceive notions of what a dancer looks like. It was a delight to produce this story about Mullikin’s work.
